What is a Board-Certified Specialist?
Board-certified veterinary specialists have completed a bachelor of science degree, 4 years of veterinary medical school earning a degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), a minimum of a one year internship or equivalent training, and 2-4 years of intensive residency training.
Then, to become a "Board Certified Specialist" (i.e., "Diplomate") in a veterinary specialty the veterinarian must finally pass a rigorous series of examinations.
