We proudly offer the following specialties:
Internal Medicine
| |
Internists specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of complex
problems of the respiratory, gastrointestinal, hepatic (liver), renal
(kidney), endocrine, hematologic, cardiac and neurologic systems.
Our internists work closely with your veterinarian in managing your
pet's problems and establishing a specific diagnosis, especially in
cases where the signs are vague or perplexing.
Internists deal with a variety of clinical signs including loss of
appetite, weight loss, fever, anemia, vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, and
seizures. Specialized diagnostic tools such as endoscopy allows
noninvasive diagnostic capabilities. |
Diagnostic Imaging
| |
BAVS offers advanced diagnostic imaging capabilities for a variety
of diseases including orthopedic, neurologic, intra-abdominal, cardiac,
and a number of other disorders. These capabilities include:
- Diagnostic radiology (x-rays)
- Ultrasound
- Computed Tomography (CT Scan)
- Scintigraphy (eg, bone, thyroid, liver scans and others)
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is available through a nearby facility.
Our radiologists review all the radiographs at BAVS as well as those of
your local practitioner. |

intra-abdominal, and reconstructive problems can be treated effectively
through expert surgical intervention.
The safest anesthetic agents are used and patients are continuously
monitored throughout surgery.
The latest pain relief medications are utilized to assure the highest
degree of comfort possible.
Comprehensive pre-, intra-, and post-operative care is provided at BAVS. |
Neurology
| |
Animals suffer many of the same brain, spinal cord, nerve, and
muscle problems that humans face, including seizures, concussions,
spinal cord injuries resulting from slipped discs or spinal fractures,
and tumors. Many of these neurological disorders are treatable.
Sometimes a simple drug regimen or surgery can make a huge difference,
and it is possible for patients to recover and live well for many years
with proper treatment.
Other neurological conditions may require a pet owner to invest
time, energy, and emotion. For those who are able and willing to make
the investment, it's comforting to know options are available to help
their pets. |
Oncology
| |
Oncology is the study of cancer. Ten common signs of cancer in
animals are abnormal swellings that persist or continue to grow, sores
that do not heal, weight loss, loss of appetite, bleeding or discharge
from any body opening, offensive odor, difficulty eating or swallowing,
hesitation to exercise or loss of stamina, persistent lameness or
stiffness, difficulty breathing, urinating, or defecating.
With prompt diagnosis and treatment, many cancers considered untreatable
just a few years ago are now treated with predictable outcomes.
Oncology patients at BAVS have available the most current and effective
forms of therapy that focuses on providing the best quality of life for
your pet. |
Dermatology
| |
Dermatologic (skin) problems are caused by a variety of conditions
including allergies, infections, tumors, and internal diseases. Proper
treatment of skin conditions, including chronic ear infections, requires
appropriate tests, such as allergy testing.
There are many internal medical problems that cause skin disease,
including diseases of the liver, pancreas and hormone-producing glands.
Dermatologists work in concert with the internists to treat these
internal conditions. |
Cardiology
| |
Cardiac (heart) problems are very common in both young and old
animals.
Symptoms of cardiac problems include lethargy, respiratory difficulty,
cough, weight loss and murmurs.
With proper treatment, most cardiac problems can be managed or cured.
Customized management of cardiac conditions is essential to prolong and
improve your pet's quality of life.
Cardiology services available at BAVS include the most up-to-date
medical and surgical treatments for pets with heart problems including
EKG, echocardiography (ultrasound) with doppler, holter monitoring,
and birth defect surgery. |
Radiation Therapy
| |
Pets of the Bay Area have comprehensive radiation therapy available
only at BAVS. Services available include I-131 for hyperthyroidism and
highly advanced image guided radiation therapy, utilizing the Bay Area's
only Linear Accelerator for pets.
With CT image guided treatment planning through a board certified
veterinary radiation oncologist and sophisticated software, focused

within the body. |
Chiropractic
| |
For athletes and weekend warriors alike, we are pleased to add
chiropractic care to our emerging sports medicine program.
Chiropractic is a treatment option used extensively in human medicine
for pain relief and optimization of performance that has numerous
applications in veterinary medicine. |
Emergency
| |
We offer emergency and urgent care services 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week including weekends and holidays. We accept walk-ins as well as transfer
cases from area veterinarians.
The Emergency Service is available exclusively to treat pets in an
emergency, when the family veterinarian is unavailable. Once the pet's
condition is stabilized, the patient will be released or returned to the regular
veterinarian for continued care. |
